En la vejez hay un incremento de susceptibilidad a los acontecimientos y factores perjudiciales de orden biológicos que repercuten psicológica y socialmente. EI objetivo de nuestro trabajo fue indagar los factores de riesgo que inciden en los anciano edéntulos para una mejor calidad de vida. En un primer instrumento se realizó una entrevista en una muestra aleatoria en 110 sujetos ancianos. Las personas entrevistadas concurren a la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, para la confección de sus prótesis completas, a las que se les realizó una entrevista con dos preguntas abiertas para que la persona se explaye; antes y después de Ia colocación de sus prótesis completas bien confeccio-nadas. Además, hay preguntas referidas a su situación bucal, psico-social y cultural. EI objetivo de nuestro trabajo fue indagar los factores de riesgo que inciden en los ancianos edéntulos encontrándose como factor de riesgo la población carenciada, soledad, y en lo especifico con situación bucal y uso de prótesis desadaptadas lo que disminuye la auto-estima con la consiguiente falta de comunicación (aislamiento) donde hay en alteraciones tróficas (de alimentación, postural) y estéticas como demanda prioritaria. Además significa una amenaza algunas carencias que responden a necesidades físicas de sanidad. Se realizó un análisis cuantitativo con inferencias cualitativas en entrevista cerrada. Además, se aplicó una "Escala de Autoestima del anciano" antes y después de la colocación de las prótesis, en la que se observó diferencia significativa entre ambas, con un ligero aumento de la autoestima en los ancianos indagados. Es responsabilidad del odontólogo estar capacitado para realizar trabajos con excelencia en su área de competencia detectando factores de riesgo y así Iograr una mejor calidad de vida y saber relacionarse interdisciplinariamente con otras especialidades. A fin de visualizar situaciones que no sólo son de orden biológico sino psicosocial de los adultos mayores.Summary: Due to the increase in the number of people of advanced age, and generated by the drop in the birth rate and death rate and the high tife expectancy, the progressive aging of the population draws a growing interest. In old age, there is a growing susceptibility to the detrimental events and factors of biological order that have psychological and social repercussions. The objective of our work was to ascertain the risk factors that impact the elderly who are completely without teeth (toothless) for extend their tife expectancy. In the first test, 110 elderly subjects were interviewed in a random sample. Those interviewed were gathered at the College of Odontology, National University of Córdoba for the making of their complete prosthesis; in which before and after the fitting of the complete prosthesis, they were interviewed with 2 open questions in order that they may become relaxed. Additionally, there were questions refening to their situation orally, psycho-socially and culturally. The objective of our work was to ascertain the risk factors that impact the elderly who are completely without teeth (toothless) and finding as risk factors population shortage, loneliness and specifically to their oral situation - the use of unsuitable prostheses, which diminishes their self esteem and the consequent lack of communication (isolation) thereby altering their nutritional intake and habits (eating, diet, posture) and aesthetics as a priority. Moreover, it signifies some deficiency threats to physical health necessities. A quantitative analysis with qualitative inferences was done in a closed interview. Also, a "Scale of Self Esteem of the Elderly" was applied before and after the fitting of the prosthesis, in which significant differences were observed between both, with a rapid increase in the self-esteem of the subjects investigated. It is the responsibility of the dental Isurgeon to be qualified in order to be able to achieve excellent work in their area of expertise, detecting risk factors, and as such, obtain a better quality of life and to know how to relate interdisciplinarily with other specialties. In the end, to see situations that are not only of biological order, but also psychosocial in older adults.
